Learn What Support is Available

Involved fathers during early adulthood typically turn out to be good spouses, workers and citizens at midlife.

Men’s emotional involvement with their children has been found to act as a buffer against work-related stresses.

The Details –

What is the Fathers on the Move Program?

Fathers on the Move is an 8-week program where participants meet one time per week in one of the five selected Missouri Bootheel counties. Weekly sessions include group discussion, skill development, behavior modification and coping techniques to be an engaged member of the family, regardless if living in the home with children full time or not. The program serves five Bootheel counties in Missouri:  Mississippi, Scott, New Madrid, Pemiscot and Stoddard counties. This is a grant-funded program through a partnership with Missouri Foundation for Health.

Why Should You Start This Program Now?

Kids will go through a tremendous period of rapid and complex change, learning how to move their bodies, form language for communication and make sense of the world they live in. Many developmental experts describe the early years as the “critical time period” in the formulation of personality – or who we will become. Because our brains are getting hard-wired to view the world through our own experiences, everything that happens becomes filtered through that experience and our understanding of ourselves and others. Our kids will be shaped by their experience of us and the environment we provide for them.

When should you start?

The sooner the better – it’s time to make a positive impact on the lives of your children. It’s never too late to get started, regardless of their age. When it comes to shaping children – you, as the father, are more important than you realize. And having a healthy and positive relationship with the mother is vital to helping children reach their full potential. Join us.

The Stats –

What Are the Benefits of Fatherhood Programs for Fathers, Children and Families?

Research shows it is not the frequency of contact from fathers with their children, but the quality of the relationship that supports a child’s healthy development. Fathers may be physically present in the home, but may be emotionally absent or have a negative involvement in the lives of their kids. Our program focuses on developing the qualities of fathers who are positively involved in the lives of their kids and on the ability to improve skills in this area.

Children Who Have Involved Fathers:
  • More likely to graduate from high school
  • More likely to stay out of jail
  • More likely to avoid drug and alcohol abuse
  • Less likely to develop asthma, headaches, anxiety, depression and behavior problems
  • Less likely to become socially isolated and alienated
  • Less likely to threaten or attempt suicide
  • Less likely to commit murder
  • Less likely to commit rape
  • Less likely to be involved in a violent crime
  • Less likely to run away from home
  • Less likely to be admitted into psychiatric hospital
